What is Crime Stoppers_______________________________________
Crime Stoppers of Miami-Dade is a program which involves the public, the media and law enforcement in the fight against crime. It offers anonymity and cash rewards to people who provide information leading to the arrest and filing of criminal charges against offenders, and the capture of fugitives. Anonymity overcomes fear of involvement and cash overcomes apathy.

How does Crime Stoppers work?________________________________
A report or re-enactment of the crime or a wanted person is given to TV, the radio, or in the newspaper. If you recognize the person or know about the crime, you should call Crime Stoppers. Detectives process the information and assign a tip number to the “tipster”. Law enforcement agencies receive the information callers provide; callers should check back often to see if their information qualifies for a reward.

Are the phone calls traced or recorded?_________________________
Absolutely not! Crime Stoppers of Miami-Dade has separate phone lines for callers; they are not traced or recorded!

Do I have to give my name?___________________________________
No. You will receive a confidential “tip” number. All calls are confidential.

How do I get paid if I’m an anonymous caller?_____________________
You are given a confidential tip number. You use this number to check on the status of your information. If your information results in an arrest or filing of criminal charges, or if a criminal is apprehended, arrangements are made for you to receive your reward in CASH and preserve your anonymity.

How are reward amounts determined?___________________________
The Board of Directors, depending on the circumstance of each case, determines the reward amount, ranging from $50 to $1,000.

Who administers the program?_________________________________
The Crime Stoppers Board of Directors is comprised of concerned citizens of the greater Miami-Dade area who oversee the operation of the program. Crime Stoppers is a non-profit organization under section 501©3 of the IRS code, and is funded through donations from the public. Contributions are tax-deductible.

Is Crime Stoppers a TV show?__________________________________
No. It is a method of collecting information to help solve a crime; however, many TV stations run features to help publicize Crime Stoppers.

Can I email a tip to Crime Stoppers?_____________________________
No. Because of security limitations, we can’t guarantee the anonymity of email tips. We cannot treat any information we receive via email as an official Crime Stoppers tip.
